NIU Huskies Defeat Illinois Institute of Technology Redhawks, 107-55

The NIU Huskies men's basketball team defeated the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks 107-55 on Monday night. The Huskies' 107-point scoring run was the first time since 2015 that an NIU basketball team has scored 100 points and the most points scored by an NIU basketball team since 2013 (111 points).

Huskies rookie guard Will Lovins-Watts scored 19 points by shooting 7 of 10. Sophomore forward Xavier Amos was the team's second leading scorer with 14 points on 6-9 shooting.

In addition to the offensive explosion, the Huskies played shutdown defense as NIU held the Scarlet Hawks to a 28.6% shooting percentage, caused 29 fouls and made 17 steals.

The Mavericks' strong defense allowed the team to play faster and more fun basketball. A total of 13 players scored for the Huskies, including five in double figures.

NIU head coach Rashon Burno praised the team's depth and said it has been a concern since senior guard Keshawn Williams was injured last season. Burno said Williams is expected to return soon, but his return is not being rushed.

The Huskies' next game is against Georgia State on Friday at 1 p.m. in Atlanta, Georgia.
